Szilvia Schranz
Hungarian-born coloratura soprano Szilvia Schranz
was born in Budapest, Hungary into a family of
musicians that had worked for generations in the
Hungarian National Opera. Her family immigrated to
Boulder, Colorado in the 1980s where she later
studied voice at the University of Colorado. With
her rare strength and clarity in the upper
coloratura ranges, she won First Prize in the
school's prestigious Anderson Vocal Competition and
received a full talent scholarship to the Aspen
Music Festival. She received her Master of Music
degree from Manhattan School of Music in New York.
Today, Ms. Schranz is studying with such renowned singers as Irene Gubrud and Marilyn Horne and captivating audiences across America and Europe with her emotive performances and beautifully clear upper ranges while working. She is increasingly being recognized as an up and coming coloratura soprano with a voice that has been called "breathtakingly perfect" and "expressive and pure".
She has appeared with the London Chamber Soloists, including performances of Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, as well as in Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Creation at St. Martin in the Fields. She has also performed with the Takacs and Columbine String Quartets and has collaborated with such outstanding musicians as pianists Vanessa Perez, Larry Graham and Margo Garrett, harpsichordist Kenneth Hamrick, organist Maxine Thevenot, violinists Annamaria Karacson and Edward Dusinberre, flautists Ileana Ruhemann and Judith Pearce, oboist Elizabeth Hardin, clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester and composers Suzanne Farrin, Su Lian Tan, Huw Watkins and Sebastian Zubieta, among numerous others.
Ms.Schranz was heard in Budapest in Britten's Les Illuminations with the MAV Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gabor Takacs-Nagy, which was broadcast over Bartok Radio in Hungary. She has also appeared in Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra in Colorado with Maestro Michael Butterman, with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra under Maestro Bahman Saless and is very much looking forward to performances of Bach's Cantata No. 209 also with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, as well as debuting with the Colorado MahlerFest in the great Symphony No. 8, under Maestro Robert Olson.
