Keven Keys
Michigan native Keven Keys’ warm baritone has
delighted audiences with a wide range of repertoire
from Bach to Bernstein, from opera to oratorio and
art song. He has performed both classical and
musical theater works, including Sam in Bernstein’s
opera Trouble in Tahiti and Elijah in Mendelssohn’s
oratorio based on the Old Testament prophet. He has
played a wide variety of roles in musical theater:
from the villain Mordred in Camelot to the
anti-hero John Wilkes Booth in Sondheim’s Assassins
to the romantic lead Georg in Harnick and Bock’s
She Loves Me.
In Keven’s current home of Chicago, career highlights include a recent performance with Carol Vaness, title roles in Verdi’s Falstaff, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Rachmaninoff’s Aleko, as well as Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, and John Brook in Mark Adamo’s Little Women. Concert credits include Mahler’s 5 Rückert Lieder, Vaughn-Williams Dona Nobis Pacem, Mozart and Fauré Requiems, and the Bach solo Cantata #82, “Ich habe genug,” with the Sherwood Conservatory Orchestra. Keven received his Masters in Vocal Performance from Northwestern University, where he studied with Karen Brunssen and Sherrill Milnes, and his BA in physics from Kalamazoo College.
