"My Time Will Come Yet"
In August of 2005, the Colorado MahlerFest learned that it was one of four recipients of the International Gustav Mahler Society (IGMS) Mahler Gold Medal - bestowed as part of the IGMS 50th anniversary celebration. To recognize major artists, arts organizations and scholars for their outstanding contrbutions to all things Mahler, the IGMS has bestowed 39 Mahler Gold Medals in its history (this year's batch is the first since 1999). The other 2005 winners were the New York Philharmonic and the Gustav Mahler Committee of Toblach/Dobbiaco. Past winners include the Vienna Philmarmonic, the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Leonard Bernstein, Claudio Abbado, Christa Ludwig, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and scholars Donald Mitchell and Ted Reilly (who have presented talks at the Colorado MahlerFest Symposia).
Maestro Robert Olson and Board President Stan Ruttenberg traveled
to Vienna for a ceremony on September 20 to accept the award on
behalf of everyone associated with the Colorado MahlerFest.
