Evelyn Nikkels, Bergen, Netherlands, took degrees in musicology and
philosophy at the University of Utrecht and wrote her thesis on the
influence of Nietzsche on the music of Mahler. She is a member of the
Board of the Dutch Mahler Society and lectures widely on Mahler and the
fin de siècle culture. In 1992, she co-edited with Robert
Becqué A 'Mass' for Masses; Proceedings of the Mahler VIII
Symposium, Amsterdam, 1988. Dr. Nikkels was one of the organizers of
the Mahler Festival, Amsterdam, 1995, during which all of
Mahler's music was played in an eighteen-day period, accompanied
by lectures, recitals, and a special International Symposium. Dr.
Nikkels participated in the symposium during MahlerFest XI.
