The Symphony No. 6 is often called the "Tragic." A more
suitable name is perhaps "The Alma Symphony," as Mahler
specifically designated a theme in the first movement as "The
Alma Theme" (or this is what Alma wrote herself), and this is
his first symphony completed in full after their marriage.
Consequently, the theme of the MahlerFest XVI Chamber/Lieder
concerts will be "Alma."

The two chamber concerts will be dedicated to the memory of our
beloved pianist, Terese (Terrie) Stewart, who in April succumbed
to her third onslaught of breast cancer. Terrie established in
her will a scholarship fund at CU College of Music for young pianists
and MahlerFest will support this fund by selling three CDs of
Terrie's Lieder recitals drawn from the MahlerFest chamber
concerts in which she participated.
In addition to a deeply moving rendition of Winterreise,
her outstanding valedictory performance with Patrick Mason, there
will be one CD of Mahler songs, and one CD of songs by others.
Details will soon be on the CD order page on this site.
