Patrick Mason, Board Member and Director of Recitals, and Jeanna Wearing, are arranging an evening of songs set by composers other than Mahler to the Chinese poems collected by Hans Bethge, under the title "The Chinese Flute." Some of the composers to be represented are Egon Wellez, Wilhelm Grosz and Felix Wolfes. Most of these songs are rarely heard.
The manuscripts for many of these songs are in the private library of Jeanna Wearing, a member of the MahlerFest Board, former Host of the classical music program on AM radio station KPOF, Denver, and now General manager, classical FM station KCME, Manitou Springs/Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jeanna will introduce the songs and give some background about their composers.
Mason, baritone, will perform many of the songs with Terese Stewart at the piano. Other CU faculty and students will also participate.
