Terese (Terrie) Stewart was a pianist for our
MahlerFest Chamber/Lieder recitals beginning with
MahlerFest IX, in 1996. Terrie braved several bouts
of cancer but succumbed in April, 2002. Just a few
months earlier, in January 2002, she and baritone
Patrick Mason performed an outstanding, luminous,
deeply moving "Winterreise", Franz Schubert's
hauntingly beautiful song cycle of a disappointed
lover. Sadly, that was Terrie's last concert.
Dauntless to the end, Terrie decided to establish a
scholarship fund at the CU College of Music, in
honor of her own piano teacher, Beckie Reeder
Arnold.
Colorado MahlerFest honors Terrie's memory by dedicating the annual Chamber/Lieder concerts to her, and by making available a 3-CD set featuring some of Terrie's memorable performances at the MahlerFest chamber recitals. The 3 CDs in the set contain:
